BIOGRAPHY
We like to present to you a short biography that tells the how, where and why's of our band. As short as possible that is. We love to talk about ourselves so hopefully you'll get the idea.
Furthermore this page will also provide you with facts to illustrate where we are at, as a band at this point in time...
Over a year now, up and at it in the current strenght, operating from the dutch city of Rotterdam, the sextet JumboDollars have been busy recording their debut album called: "this way".
Originally the JumboDollars line-up consisted of Jean Paul Schriks on lead vocals and rhythmguitar, Maarten Brandenburg on drums and Stef Willeboordse on bassguitar. Jasper Droogers added a copper topping on trumpet and trombone.
Around the turn of the year 2003 on 2004 guitarist Rob Brandenburg joined his brother's band, shortly after followed by Hans Metzger who plays electric piano.
"this way", will be featuring songs that took shape from the moment on we found our current line-up and started to develope our musical ideas and embrace musical ideals. Soon producer Nicky in't Veld was asked to help us out on recording. In april 2004 the first sessions took place down in a basement in a town near Rotterdam where JumboDollars have their rehearsalroom. Some stills were taken one day, you can check those out on this website to give you an idea on what kind of athmosphere went down there.
At this point we are in the phase of finishing our record. Mastering has taken place and exitement keeps us up all night poundering on stuff that needs to be done, love it!
Until now there's only reactions and critics of friends and some members of fellow bands on the results of our efforts, eventhough they yet only exist in the shape of raw matererial and mixes. However, reactions are stunningly positive! We'll not bother you with any quote's but we do enjoy the variety of comparisons people make after hearing our stuff... To name a few: Nick Cave,The Stranglers (due to the stranglers-fetish our pianist suffers from probably...) The Doors even mind you!, that's our singers goldenbrown voice there... The Strokes for straight on up and down, back and forth structures and we hear Bauhaus. Some even mention bands we never heard of... Is that good?
We love that... but still, we like to think that our main advantage lies in the fact that all noses are pointing in the same direction. Musically spoken that is, and on stage of course... We never seem to do coversessions in our basement ever... We like to experiment and look for new angles to approach our stuff... As we sculpt and grind and songs take shape, we find that only good ideas survive to see the light of day so there's not much of an arguement on that... It just so happens.
So we guess we're up for the next adventure, above all, play as much as we possibly can and let the world know there is a band such as JumboDollars.
Come see us, we like you!
